What is workplace
violence?
First of all, let us see, what you mean by workplace
violence. At the work places, if there
occur any threatening activities like physical violence, intimidation, harassment,
etc. they are termed as workplace violence. There are workplace violence prevention training sessions for preventing these acts. There can be verbal
or physical violence in the offices, companies, etc. Many times there are workplace
homicides as well.
What are its types?
Workplace violence is divided into four main parts as per the FBI. This needs to be avoided by both-
employees and employers. They are given below:

The acts by violent criminals who enter the
workplace for robbery or other crimes.
2.
Criminal acts by current or former employees
against supervisors, co-workers or managers.
3.
Criminal acts by outsiders, who don’t work
there, but have some personal relationship with the internal employees.
4.
The acts are done
by clients, customers, patients, inmates, students or any others which are
directed at the employees.
These acts can be controlled to a certain limit with the
help of workplace violence prevention
training.
Strategies and
Prevention Tips
- Workplace violence prevention training should be given to all employees.
- A formal policy must be adopted and communicated to all from time-to-time.
- There should be warning signs for alerting the people and telling them how to respond.
- The work environment should be trustful and respectful. There should be healthy relationships between employees and managers, especially.
- A bad culture where there are bullies, harassment and insults, etc. must be eradicated to reduce the crimes.
- There must be lesser stress and negativity in the offices because it leads to offensive and problematic behaviors.
- While hiring and even after hiring, it is necessary to keep watch on the employees who get violent or seem dangerous. It is necessary to terminate such employees.
- From time-to-time, workplace violence prevention training should be conducted, so that the new employees get trained and older employees are again given an overview of these important issues.
- Security systems like alarms, cameras, passcodes, ID keys, and even personnel. need to be evaluated
